The largest U.S. affordable housing project of its kind that has been built in the past decade is now open in downtown Miami. Residents at Sawyer's Walk, located in the heart of Miami’s historically Black Overtown area, have officially started moving into the 18-story tower's 578 units for seniors.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place for the Block 55 Affordable Senior Housing Mixed-Use Property in Overtown, marking a significant step towards providing affordable housing in our community. This 1,400,000-square-foot mixed-use development is a milestone for the area!

MSC Group is anchoring its new North America cruise headquarters at Michael Swerdlow’s Block 55 at Sawyer’s Walk after paying $67 million for a commercial unit at the Overtown mixed-use project.

A five-year effort to revitalize central Overtown, Miami’s first Black neighborhood but more recently a bystander to the city’s rapid rise, is nearing completion, bringing nearly 1,000 new jobs and several major businesses.

On Overtown land where the City of Miami once planned 1,050 units of affordable and mid-income housing, a global cargo firm and cruise line will invest $100 million to develop a new US headquarters, uniting its 250 South Florida employees under one roof.

MSC Group, a Swiss maritime company, said it will occupy the space at Block 55 at Sawyer’s Walk, a mixed-use development under construction at 249 Northwest Sixth Street in the city’s Overtown section, near downtown. The office will accommodate 250 employees of MSC Cargo, MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.

An international shipping company will open a new headquarters for its North American Cruise Division Miami’s downtown area.

Developed by the Swerdlow Group, Block 55 at Sawyer’s Walk spans 1.4 million square feet, and features approximately 180,000 square feet of retail space and 120,000 square feet of Class A office space.

Construction has reached the top floor on a $350 million high-rise residential, retail and office complex in Overtown that will bring 578 much-needed apartments for senior citizens and 1,100 jobs.

Never let it be said that Miami developer Michael Swerdlow didn't think through his Overtown project. He reinvented his vision for Sawyer's Landing a couple of times before opting to make all 578 units affordable and for renters 62 and older.

Retail giant Target has signed a letter of intent to open a store inside a planned mixed-use retail and residential development in Overtown called Block 55, according to the developer of the expansive project.

The gradual redevelopment of central Overtown, the long-neglected heart of Miami’s original black neighborhood, will take a giant leap forward with the planned construction of a $350 million mega-project anchored by a Target store and topped by 556 apartments.
